In a classic tussle, seedstock producers and commercial cattlemen went head to head to produce the best male sale average ever recorded at a Droughtmaster bulls sale at the inaugural 2010 Glenlands Droughtmaster Sale, Gracemere.
The near total clerance saw 10 led bulls average $10,600 to top at $17,000 and 100 unled registered bulls hit $28,000 twice to averaging $6065 while 39 purebreds averaged $4718.
Market top sellers at $28,000 were two 23 month old bulls. Glenlands First Class by Swan Factor weighing 700kg with a 115 EMA sold to Hastings and Sandra Donaldson, Medway Stud, Bogantungan. Losing bidders were Ken and Kerry Mckenzie, Yaralla Stud, Blackwater. Equal top was a son of Cungelella Golden Eye, Glendlands Frankenstein whom boasting a 127EMA and weighed 744kg selling to Bill and Alison Zahnleiter, Durack Stud, Baralaba. Glenlands retained a share in both bulls.
Top led bull was the 24-month Glenlands Fabio (P) a 820kg son of Miloom Impulse selling to Trevor and Robin Taylor, Happy Valley Stud, Peachester.
Teys Bros., Sedgeford, Alpha took two to average $16,750 including the $17,000 23-month, 130 EMA Glenlands D Flash (Swan Eagan) and the 22-month 798kg, Glenlands D Farnham (P) for $16,500. Sedgeford was the losing bidder on Frankenstein earlier in the sale.
Peter and Deleece Carringotn, Rondel Stud, Winton paid $16,000 for their 31-month, 990kg, Glenlands Elliott (P) (129 EMA) while the Russell family, Consuelo, Rolleston took the $17,000 Glenlands D Fenech (23-months) (Miloom Impulse).
John and Donna Finger, Meadowbrook, Dysart paid on average $13,500 for their four purchases. Top of thier draft at $17,000 was the top selling herd bull scaling in at 912kg with an EMA of 130 and a final EBV of +14 by Glenlands 1049.
Ed and Gus Mccormack, Clonlara Stud, Glenmorgan selected two to average $12,500 topping at $13,000 for an Alma Nuggett son. Angus and Donna Deane, Malboona, Corfield accounted for seven to average $5500 and Brett Nobbs, Cungelella, Springsure took two to average $7500 including the $10,000 34-month-old Glenlands Emerson (Cungelella Farmhand).
Edward Bassett, Jenavale, Roma secured six to average $6167; John Crerar, Biloela took seven to average $5214; Dan Sullivan, Talagai, Capella claimed three to average $7000.
Fred Johnson, Hillsborough, Biloela outlaid $12,000 for Swan Kennett (P) and Alan Atkinson, Broadlea, Nebo took the $10,000 Glenlands Fritz (P) by Billabong W/5 202.
